Blood Donation Campaign

‘SETIK’ Organization has been rendering so many devoted services for the promotion and well being of the youth in the rural and plantation areas in the Central Province for the past several years. At present the youth in these areas are engaged in development activities giving special priority according their needs and requirements.

As a part of these activities, a blood donation campaign was organized by the youth of Gragonhill estate, at Sri Sudarmarama Viharaya, Alawathugoda on the 25th of February 2012 under the theme “Let us save the life by donating a drop of blood”. By organizing this event, the youths have proved that they could render a virtuous service to the humanity by donating blood. 62 youths took part in this programme and 62 pints of blood was donated.

Rev. Fr. Desmond ‘SETIK’ Co-ordinator - Matale District, the Chief Incumbent of Alawathugoda Buddhist temple, The Chief Maulavi Imam of the Jumma Mosque of Alawathugoda and the Hindu Kurukkal of the Kovil Represented all four religions. The police inspector of Alawathugoda Police, Chairman Pradeshiya Sabhawa and members, Members of Three Wheeler’s Union and Grama Niladhari were also present on this occasion.

This event was jointly organized by the president of the Matale District Steering Committee and other youth committees with the assistance of the officers attached to the Blood Bank at Matale hospital where every ethnic, race and religious people were gathered without any difference.

Youth Day Celebrations 2011

The above celebration organized by the Youth unit, was held at the ‘SETIK’ auditorium on the 24th of September 2011. As a committed organization for Justice Peace Human Development Human Rights, we take keen interest in the welfare of the Youth and to create a society without any ethnic and religious discrimination.
The youth day was celebrated in a grand scale with the theme of “let us get together and lead the youth for sustainable development through non-violence and thereby lead them for a virtuous theme.
Rev. Fr. Camillus D. Jansz, Director of our organization was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Roy Clarence, Director of the Catholic Migrants’ Commission was the guest speaker of this commemoration. Mr. N. C. Gregory, Manager Administration and all the staff members had been present on this occasion. Over 300 youth (boys and girls) representing various fields in the central province were also present at this ceremony.
This programme was conducted by the above youth leaders. Awarding of certificates to the youths, who took part in the various programmes i.e. Leadership Training/ First Aid Training/ Computer Training etc., was also took place on this occasion.

Cultural Pageant and Welcoming Ceremony of Rev. Fr. George Sigamoney, the National Director

The annual Certificate Awarding Ceremony pertaining to various courses, competitions and seminars and the welcoming ceremony of the former Director of SETIK and the present National Director, Rev. Fr. George Sigamoney, was held at the SETIK auditorium in a grand manner on the 15th May 2010.

About 300 youths (Males & Females) in the Central Province who secured the places in Computer Courses, Cultural Programmes, Drama Competitions, Art Exhibitions, Oratorical Contests and various other programmes were awarded the certificates.

The youths (Males & Females) by using their talents, skills and knowledge at our programmes conducted in their areas, presented various cultural performances to entertain the crowd. Further, a programme ‘power point presentation’ was also presented in honour of the services rendered by the Rev. Father during his service as the Director of SETIK organization. The certificate award ceremony was held by Rev. Fr. George Sigamoney, the National Director of Caritas Sri Lanka, Rev. Fr. Camillus D. Jansz, the Director of Caritas Kandy (SETIK), Rev. Fathers of Kandy Diocese, Rev. Sisters and other invitees.

The programme which commenced at 9.00 a.m. was concluded at 1.00 p.m.

“Wesak Mal Dansala” (Free distribution of flowers)



Each year as an organization Setik celbrates the special days of all religious in various ways. The youth groups as well as the children’s groups of Setik organized a “Wesak Mal Dansala” (Free distribution of flowers) this year to celebrate the Wesak Full Moon Poya Day in a meaningful way. Not only Buddhists who celebrate this Poya Day but also Catholics, Hindus and Muslims actively took part in this programme which held on the 1st May 2007. The flowers were collected the day before from the Matale areas. The flowers were distributed freely to the worshippers who came to the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. The programme started at 10.00 a.m and went on till noon.
